Tips For a Clean and Organized Attic

Nothing feels better than a clean and organized space. Whether that space is used daily or not.

Yet, often many find themselves holding the most occupied areas of the home and ignoring those they see less often. One of the most popular being your attic. So if you can’t remember the last time you did a deep clean of your attic, nows the time to consider it!

By getting everything in order and put in a specific place, you can maximize space and reduce your chance of damage in the future. Here’s what to keep in mind:

Take The Time to Sort

Chances are if it's your first time up there in a while, you’re not sure what lives where. The first step in a clean and organized space is going through each item and placing them according to usage and need. The end goal is to make sure that anything you need the most is easy to access.

Ditch Some Things

While you're sorting and organizing your space, you’ll want to create a pile for anything that could be donated or trashed. Use notes or stickers to identify what you’ll keep, what you’ll give away, and what you’ll trash.

Opt for Reusable Bins

Though boxes are more affordable, for your more valuable items, plastic storage bins or vacuum-sealed bags can ensure everything remains safe in case a leak or any humidity seeps into your attic. Not only that, but they are also easy to stack and provide you with a more organized space.

Don’t Forget to Label

Once you’ve gotten all the junk items and the donatable items out the way, now it’s time to find a place for the rest. Consider placing things you rarely use in the back and the seasonal stuff like decorations up front where you can access them with ease. Be sure breakables aren’t put on the bottom, and that every bin is adequately filled to support the items in it.

Lastly, label each container or create an inventory so you can quickly get to what you need each time.
