4 Ways To Celebrate Earth Day 2021

Earth Day is the perfect time to appreciate all Mother Nature has to offer. There are so many great ways to celebrate Earth Day this year, each promoting the importance of environmental responsibility. Here are four great ways to go green for this memorable holiday:

Get Your Recycling In Order

If you have been delaying sending out your recyclables or have been putting off finally getting into the reduce, reuse, recycle routine, now is the perfect time to pick up on the habit. Visit your local recycling center or find out if there's one near you, and make sure everything that can be reprocessed in your trash is taken into account!

Plant!

Now is the perfect time to get to work and start planting new greenery. Come together with your whole family and plant new trees and flowers, a great way to promote growth and renewal during the spring season.

Neighborhood Clean Up

Consider volunteering to clean up your local park, beach, trail, etc., with a small group. It's a great way to promote community involvement while still staying safe outdoors. Plus, our planet will be very grateful that you're taking care of the unwanted litter around your neighborhood!

Consider Green Services

Try to switch over to only green and energy-efficient services from now on. From LED lights to environmentally friendly cleaning services, every leap forward is one step closer to a healthier Earth. Is My Attic Supposed to be Cold?

It's not the best sign if your attic is cold whenever you pass by it or go in. While some attics are naturally cooler than others due to their location (for example, one on the north side of the house), if your attic is cold year-round even when temperatures outside are warm enough for shorts and T-shirts - this could be an indication of a bigger problem.

Roof Vents

Check to see if there are any gaps in the roof vent that allows for airflow. If so, caulk these up with weather stripping or duct tape. It's essential to seal up vulnerable areas like this around your home so that you don't have to deal with cold spots in every room.

Poor Ventilation or Insulation

Ventilation is vital for several reasons, but it's crucial in attics. Poor ventilation causes cold attics even during warmer weather seasons. Attic insulation can also be damaged by the moisture from poor ventilation, which leads to decreased insulation effectiveness and an increased risk of mold growth, so you need to get this fixed up as soon as possible.

Our Insulation Process

Very often, GreenPro Cleaning & Restoration sees sub-floor insulation that is installed incorrectly. The two most common problems that usually need to be corrected are insulation installed upside down and insulation that is not secured correctly. Insulation does play an important part in keeping your attic or crawlspace in good condition.

Unfortunately, when insulation is installed upside down and the craft paper is wet, it must be removed and disposed of. GreenPro Cleaning & Restoration will evaluate the current insulation; if the insulation can continue to be used, we will tell you. If not, we will discuss the available options to provide you with the best and most cost-effective solution.

What is a Vapor Barrier?

A vapor barrier is a material that we can install on the outside of your home to help keep water vapor from seeping in. Many people are not aware that there is such a thing as a vapor barrier, but it's essential to have one if you want to protect your house from dampness and mold. If you're concerned about moisture in your home and would like more protection, it's a good idea to invest in your very own vapor barrier!

How It Works

Water vapor is continuously evaporating from the ground; even if the crawlspace floor looks dry, this water vapor evaporation is still occurring. A vapor barrier is the most straightforward and cost-effective way to stop this problem. A sound vapor barrier can reduce humidity by 15-30 percent, depending on the installation type.

Traditionally, a vapor barrier was used to cover only the ground floor to prevent water vapor from evaporating from the soil and moving up into the crawlspace air. This water vapor can cause excess humidity levels that also allow water damage, odors, and bugs to become a problem in your crawlspace and upper living spaces. You should only install a vapor barrier after any groundwater problems are corrected.

The Material

A standard and commonly seen vapor barrier is made of 6-mil poly plastic. This is the minimally accepted material allowed by codes such as the International Residential Code. This type of vapor barrier is used when an attic or crawlspace does not have a sidewall water penetration problem. Industry requirements for this type of installation are that the material must cover the entire floor and that seams should overlap 12 inches.

Greenpro's Vapor Barrier Process

At GreenPro Cleaning & Restoration, we take it a step further. Understanding all of the problems occurring in your attic or crawlspace is extremely important when recommending a vapor barrier that will last and perform. It should provide the expected results of a clean, dry crawlspace. That's why our specialists go into your crawlspace and check from corner to corner. We need to see what is going on to provide you the best, most cost-effective solution possible.

4 Important Things to Remember When it Rains

In the past, it was just a nuisance when it rained. Nowadays, with increased temperature changes and more frequent rainfall, it can cause a lot of damage to your home if you're not careful! If there's one thing you should remember this rainy season, it's that water doesn't stop at your doorstep - even if you have a sloped roof or gutters. It may be obvious for some people, but for others who don't know what to look out for, here are a few things to keep in mind when it does rain.

1. Pay Attention to Your Gutters

Make sure that gutters and downspouts are clear of debris before rainstorms happen. Debris can clog up the drainage system, leading to water getting backed up into other parts of the house. They can especially get blocked up during spring, so when you see the weather forecast is predicting rain, be sure to get up there and clear things out.

2. Clean Up Standing Water

One of the worst consequences of heavy rains or flooding is standing water. Standing water can harbor all sorts of harmful organisms and bacteria, which means that you should take extra care to make sure your property is dry before anything else. If you see any standing water on your property after a storm or rainfall, be sure to clean it up as soon as possible. If you don't do this right away, there's a good chance that mold will grow in the wet area.

3. Seal Your Home Before

Be sure to seal cracks in floors and walls to keep moisture out, especially around doors and windows, before heavy downfalls come your way! To fill any cracks on the inside of your home, use caulking around doors and windows. You may also want to consider using silicone-based paint for flooring, as this will keep moisture out from below.

4. At The First Sign Of Water Damage, Give Us A Call

If you suspect you have water damage in your home or building, don't hesitate to call for help right away. You must get to the source of the water damage and fix the leak to prevent it from worsening! Our team specializes in the cleanup and removal of water damage. We will visually survey and test for water damage at a reasonable rate!
