Your Spring Cleaning Checklist for 2022

Spring is finally in the air! And for many, it’s time to start their annual spring cleaning routine. This season is the perfect period to take advantage of the longer days and start feeling more rejuvenated and motivated every day. With a clean, bright space, this is possible! So, here are some ideas to add to your spring cleaning checklist this year and why they are beneficial.

Clean Your Windows

With warmer weather comes more sunshine, and you’re going to want to open up those blinds and let that light shine through your windows. But, before you can do that, you’ll need to give your windows a good clean. They probably haven’t been used for months now — trust us, they’ll need a little extra shine!

Make Time to Dust

Dust can build up in homes easily and often in spots we can’t always easily see. Try to take some time to dust now and then, which can help lessen any allergy or asthma symptoms. When cleaning, it’s recommended to start from the top (e.g., a high place like your ceiling fans) and then work your way down. It’s pointless dusting off your side table if the debris from your light fixture is just going to fall on it afterward.

Wash All Throw Pillows and Blankets

A blanket is winter’s best friend, but now that spring is here, you might as well make sure all your blankets and throw pillows are cleaned for the new season, especially if they were used a lot to keep you warm and comfortable on snowy nights!

Purge Your Closet

When was the last time you gave your closet a deep cleanse? You probably have items and clothes that are collecting dust and haven’t been used in years. Now is the time to go through all those objects and throw away or donate them. Otherwise, they’ll just sit in there until next spring.

Invest in Professional Cleaning Services

You’ve got a lot on your plate, and sometimes a full spring cleaning checklist is a lot to handle. So, if you’re looking for ways to make your home cleaner easier, get in touch with the professionals here at Greenpro Cleaning and Restoration!

And finally, we’re the go-to team to trust for any water damage problems. Spring is known for heavy rains, but you won’t have to worry about the consequences when you’ve got us by your side.

Why Is My Attic So Dusty?

Your attic is not meant to get dusty and cluttered, but over time, dust accumulates due to many factors. Dust can pose several health risks, such as respiratory problems and allergies. It's best to deal with this issue as soon as possible, so here are a few reasons why dust is building up in your attic and how you can prevent this in the future.

Old Items

If you have noticed your attic has more dust than it should, you may want to check the items stored in your attic and how long they have been there. The dust build-up may be due to some old boxes or furniture sitting in the space for years without any air circulation.

Pesky Mites

If you've noticed your attic is a lot dustier than it should be, you may have mites. Mites are one of the most common pests found in attics. They are small insects that often resemble spiders or ticks that can spread diseases like whooping cough and chickenpox to humans and pets if they're not treated properly. They feed on dry organic materials such as animal dander, feathers, fur, and paper products such as old books or newspapers that might be accumulating in your attic.

Insulation Issues

If you notice your attic is dustier than it should be, there may be an issue with insulation. There could be too many gaps throughout your insulation, causing air currents to move through these openings, carrying dust with them and depositing it on any surface they encounter. If there isn't proper ventilation to prevent this, this accumulation of dust will lead to a more musty smell and make the space feel smaller.

The best way to prevent dust from accumulating in your attic is by regularly cleaning it out or getting an HVAC professional to do a full clean of your air ducts. And our team here at Greenpro Cleaning and Restoration is ready to help!

Why Do Homes Have a Crawl Space?

In most houses, there is a crawl space underneath. Most people think that this area is simply an unfinished part of the home, but it's so much more than that. Crawl spaces are essential to keeping your home comfortable and energy-efficient year-round. However, most people don't know what it does or why they have one for the most part. Well, we've got you covered!

What is a Crawl Space

A crawl space is a low-ceilinged area beneath a house that's enclosed by floor joists and beams, called "underpinning." This makes the foundation waterproof from ground moisture. The insulation in the crawl space provides an extra layer of protection against exterior conditions. There are many reasons you might have one; for example, it serves as an additional storage area or to provide a way to access plumbing pipes for most people.

Easy Access to Equipment

Crawl spaces provide easy access for technicians to install equipment and ensure that it functions properly without having to go through walls or ceilings. Crawl spaces also protect these vital components from exterior elements like moisture and insects.

Storage Area

This area is also typically used as storage for extension cords, outdoor furniture, Christmas decorations, gardening tools, and more in the winter months. Your crawl space is big enough to provide extra storage space when you need it.

Further Weather Protection

Your crawl space provides necessary ventilation for the home and helps to regulate humidity levels. This area is also where any excess water from rain or snowmelt can drain through before reaching other parts of the house. Overall, it provides an excellent source of weather protection for your home.

For all these reasons and more, it's essential to keep your crawl space clean!

Four Things You Should Know About Water Damage

Water damage is a serious issue that can lead to mold and mildew growth. And unfortunately, water damage is an issue that can happen during any season throughout the year. It's important to take precautions when dealing with water-related pains to avoid any more problems down the line. Here are four things you should know about water damage:

1. Water Spreads Quickly

Water can spread rapidly in a home, even if it is just a small leak. And one of the most unlucky factors is that water damage isn't just limited to flooding; often, even high humidity can cause enough moisture in your home to lead to water-related problems spreading throughout your home.

2. Electric Shock Possible

First and foremost, do not touch anything wet or with standing water on it. You can get electric shocks if you come in contact with any electrical sources like outlets, lights, etc., and the materials that have become wet near or touching an electrical source. You should always shut off your electricity before coming into contact with anything wet to avoid electrical shock.

3. Water Damages What it Touches

Water damages nearly everything it touches, so dry out your home as quickly as possible. Remove any wet items from the house as soon as possible, but be careful not to spread the moisture by stepping on carpeting or rugs while they are wet.

4. A Professional Should Be Contacted Immediately

The second you suspect you are dealing with water damage in your home, it's time to take action. The restoration process takes time and expertise to ensure it's done right, so don't wait too long before hiring a professional! It may seem daunting, but water can do a lot of damage quickly and lead to mold if not dealt with properly. So make sure you reach out for help as soon as possible.

At Home Valentine's Day Gift Ideas

Valentine’s Day is coming up, and sometimes it takes a lot to plan an entire day or night out. Sometimes it’s the simple memories and gifts that mean the most! If you’re thinking about staying home with your partner this year for Valentine’s Day rather than going out, here are some cute suggestions on how to make the most of the day.

Breakfast in Bed

There is no better way to start the day than with some freshly cooked breakfast in bed! Whip something up super quick for your partner and surprise them with their favorite start-of-the-day meal. It’s a great way to start the holiday on a positive note — leading the way for the rest of the day.

Delivery Services

From flower deliveries to bouquets of chocolate-covered fruits, ordering a gift delivery to your home on this holiday is a great way to surprise your significant other! Have them answer the door and watch as the joy shines on their face from the thoughtfulness — all while still in your pajamas!

Handwritten Letters or Cards

While, yes, premade cards are often very thoughtful and are beautifully written, there’s no truer way to show your love than with your own words. Write a handwritten letter or card for your partner to express all the ways they mean the world to you!

Surprise Cleaning

A clean home is a happy home! This might not feel like a “gift” per se, but trust us when we say that being surprised by your house being cleaned is often one of the best presents. Take care of the little things you can handle, like vacuuming, dusting, organizing, and mopping. Watch as your significant other is surprised and grateful for your thoughtfulness!

And we here at Greenpro Cleaning and Restoration can help with the harder cleaning jobs. We’ll handle air ducts, attic and crawlspace cleaning, and water damage restoration. It’s a sure way to make this lovely day even more meaningful.

Our Visual Survey For Water Damage

Water damage can happen for a variety of reasons. It may be the result of an overflowing sink, toilet, or dishwasher; it could also be due to plumbing issues in your home's walls or flooring. Or, it could be due to intense weather conditions such as rainstorms or a blizzard. If you suspect that you have water damage, it is important to act quickly and call for professional help.

Here at Greenpro, we have a full-service visual survey for water damage that will help determine where the issue is and how it can be fixed. For more details about this process, read on!

What Is a Visual Survey?

A visual survey is a way to assess the damage and find out if we can do anything for you. Our inspectors use this information to determine what repairs need to be made, how long they will take, and what kind of help we can offer with the cost.

Our Visual Survey Process

We perform visual surveys in the home or building to check the fungal ecology or problems in a specific area as directed.
  • The survey takes about 30-45 minutes and includes the following:
  • Walking around the suspected problem area(s).
  • Walking through and to the areas of concern.
  • Viewing the area with a flashlight to highlight the alleged water-damaged area.
  • Taking moisture readings of the structure such as walls, floors, and/or ceiling surfaces to detect moisture intrusion.
  • Taking temperature and relative humidity readings to determine if they fall within ASHRAE recommendations.
  • Providing an estimate for remediation by industry standards [S-520].

Protect Your Home

On top of these steps, we also visually survey and test for water damage at a reasonable rate. Remember that the young and elderly are more susceptible to water damage and indoor pollutants. If you suspect that there may be a problem in the home or building, call us for an indoor evaluation.
