3 Ways Your Attic Affects Your Home Cooling

You probably know that heat rises, so much of the hot air entering your home goes right up into your attic. Even if you have your air conditioners going, it tends to be warmer up there than down in your house. Know that your home’s overall cooling this season can be affected by your attic in many ways. Here are a few things to keep in mind to ensure your home is as cool as can be:

Ventilation

Without proper ventilation, your attic won’t be able to properly breathe. With the intense heat, it can get extremely hot up there some days. Hot air gets into your attic through thermal energy, when enough heat is pressing down on your roof. Therefore, ventilation is important for air flow, so that no hot air seeps into the rest of your home and creates a need to raise your air conditioning, costing you more.

Insulation

It’s important to keep your cool air inside your home, which is what your insulation is made for. Without it, cold air can leak outside and cause heat to build up inside. If you have not added insulation to your attic, consider doing so as soon as possible in order to protect your home from the heat!

Roof Color

It’s well known that darker colors tend to attract the sun’s rays more, so sometimes it’s as simple as changing the color of your roof in order to cool down your attic and home. Lighter colors won’t take in as much heat, keeping your attic from overheating.
